Getting started
Do I have to type in my funds?
No. Import the consolidated account statement (CAS) you can download from CAMS, KFintech or MFCentral and every fund, folio and transaction comes in at once. Shares come in from your broker’s holdings export, NPS from the CRA statement, and other assets from a simple CSV — or add them by hand.
Which brokers can I import shares from?
The holdings exports of Zerodha Console, Groww, Upstox, Angel One, ICICI Direct, HDFC Securities and Kotak, or a simple sheet of your own with the symbol and quantity.
Can I try it without my own data?
Yes. Tap “Try with sample data” on the first screen. Two made-up families load in: Arjun and Meera, who follow a model plan, and Rajesh and Lakshmi, with the mistakes the app is built to catch. They are read-only, never counted in your totals, and you can remove them whenever you like.
Which devices does it run on?
Android phones (from Google Play) and Windows 10 or 11 PCs (from the Microsoft Store). Both look and work the same.
Privacy and safety
Does it need my bank or broker login?
Never. It reads files you already have. It cannot place orders, move money or see your accounts.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your phone or PC. There is no OffGridWealth account and no server holding your portfolio. Nothing you import or type is ever sent to us — not your name, PAN, folios or amounts.
Can I back up to my own cloud?
Yes. In Settings, connect your own Google Drive once — on Windows you sign in through your web browser, on Android you pick your Google account. The app then keeps a dated backup in a folder called OffGridWealth Backups in your Drive, once a day, encrypted first if you have set an app password. It can see only the files it saved there, nothing else. Phone and PC share that folder, so a backup made on one can be restored on the other. Prefer not to? Leave it disconnected and keep the backup file on your device.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Imports, reports, planning and the guide all work with no connection. It goes online only for things you switch on yourself: Refresh NAV for the latest public fund prices, one-time downloads of index history and the fund list, and Google Drive backup if you connect it. Fully offline mode switches all of that off.
What if I lose my phone?
Your data lives only where you keep it, so keep a backup — the easiest way is to connect your own Google Drive and let the app back up once a day. Restore that backup on the new phone or on your PC and everything returns.
What if I forget my app password?
It cannot be recovered — there is no server to reset it from. Restore from a backup you made before setting the password, or one you remember the password for.
Using it
Can I use it on my phone and my PC?
Yes. Save a backup on one and open it on the other — the Android app and the Windows program use the same file. Connect your own Google Drive on both and they share one backup folder, so you can back up on the phone and restore on the PC the same evening.
Can I track my spouse’s and parents’ money too?
Yes. Each family member gets a profile with their own portfolio, assets, SIPs and reports, and the family view adds everyone together. Statements are checked against each owner’s PAN, so they land in the right profile.
How current are fund prices?
Statements carry the NAV of their date. Tap Refresh NAV to fetch the latest public prices from AMFI whenever you like.
I am an NRI. Does it handle that?
Yes. The Plan Builder asks whether you are resident, NRI or a seafarer and adjusts its advice, the policy check has an NRI version, and the guide has an NRI corner.
Price and trial
Is it really free to try?
Yes. Install it free from the Microsoft Store or Google Play and every feature is unlocked for 14 days. No card is needed to start, and there is no sign-up.
What happens after 14 days?
Nothing you entered is lost. The core tracker stays free for good: imports, holdings with XIRR, transactions, SIPs, every kind of asset and loan, your net-worth number, the Investor Guide, the calculators and backups. Planning, the checks, family, tax reports and exporting your own reports come with Pro, a single payment. Every Pro item carries a small PRO badge, the Pro screens stay visible, and they run fully on the sample families, so you can see what they would show.
Can I export my reports during the trial?
The sample family’s reports export to PDF and Excel during the trial, so you can see exactly what the app produces. Exporting your own reports is part of the purchase. Everything else — every screen, every report on screen — works on your own data from day one.
Is there a subscription?
No. One payment, and there is no renewal.
Do I pay separately for the phone and the PC?
Yes. The Android app is bought through Google Play and the Windows program through the Microsoft Store, so each is its own one-time purchase. Buy the one you use most, or both if you want the app on each device — your data moves freely between them with one backup file either way.
Can I use my Windows licence on more than one PC?
If you installed from the Microsoft Store, the purchase belongs to your Microsoft account and follows the Store’s own rules for your devices. If you installed the plain installer from this site instead, the licence is tied to one laptop or desktop: the app makes a request code from your name and a machine ID, and the key we send back works only on that computer. Either way your data moves freely — restore a backup on any PC, licensed or not.
And the Android app?
The Android app works like any other Play Store purchase: it is linked to your Google account, so you can install it on every Android device signed in with that account — phone and tablet — without paying again.
Are updates free?
Yes. Every update within the version you bought — fixes, new reports, new features — is free, for as long as that version is maintained. If a major new version is ever released as a separate product, existing users will get it at a large discount. You will never be asked to pay again just to keep using what you bought.
Advice, as often as you like
How is this different from going to a financial adviser?
An adviser meets you once a year, asks the same questions, and gives you a plan for a fee. OffGridWealth asks those questions in the Plan Builder, fills most answers from your own portfolio, and writes the plan — risk profile, monthly amount, mix, what to fix first, and what a planner would add for your stage of life. Then you can run it again whenever anything changes: a raise, a new loan, a child, a market fall, a policy you are offered. Every permutation, on your real numbers, at no extra cost. It works at the level of fund categories and never names a fund; it is education and arithmetic, not regulated advice.
Can I check an endowment or ULIP before I buy it?
Yes — that is what the Policy check is for. Enter the premium, the term and what the plan pays back from the benefit illustration the agent gave you (lump sums, a yearly income, the maturity amount), or start from one of the 22 popular plans built in. The app works out the yearly return those cash flows really earn, and shows the same premiums on the same dates in an FD, PPF, post-office schemes, bonds, and a term plan plus an index fund — with the life cover each one gives. Nothing is saved unless you choose to keep it.
Advice and accuracy
Is it tax advice?
No. The capital-gains reports are worked out from your own statements and laid out the way the return asks for them, so filing is easier for you and your tax adviser. Rules change and situations differ — check the figures before you file.
Does it tell me which fund to buy?
No. The plan works at the level of fund categories and never names a fund. Checks flag things to review, such as a fund trailing its index, never instructions to buy or sell.
How does the policy check work?
You enter the premium, the term and what the policy pays back — at maturity, in instalments or as a yearly income — from your benefit illustration. The app works out the yearly return those cash flows really earn, and what the same premiums would be worth in an FD, PPF, bonds, or a term plan plus an index fund. Twenty-two popular plan structures are built in to start from.
